RECYCLING PAINT WATER IS PART OF OUR ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY PLAN
Last blog post covering our environmental and sustainability plan centered around our staff training program. You can read that article by clicking here.
Part 3 of our Environmental and Sustainability plan involves recycling paint water.
Is it OK to pour paint water down the drain?
Is it OK to wash paint brushes in the sink?
Can I wash paint rollers in the sink?
The answer to all of the above is NO NO NO. Absolutely not. Just because paint or paint waste water is a liquid is no reason for it to be poured down the sink or a drain or into the garden.
Pouring such liquids down the sink could not only cause your sink to clog it can also do great deal of harm and pollution to the environment. This also applies to the drain or the garden.
Water is one of the world’s most precious resources and we must do our best in order to preserve it.
It’s amazing to notice how many irresponsible painters and painting companies allow this to occur on their projects. Speaking to clients across the board, we have heard many complaints of painters/painting companies pouring waste water or paint down the sink or drain and not recycling paint water.
Staunch Greco Industries have made recycling paint water a key priority of our Environmental and Sustainability Plan. Hence we introduced the Haymes Ecocare Wash System on every project we work on!
The Ecocare Wash System is a portable small bath tub that allows our staff to responsibly wash brushes, rollers and trays.
The Main Steps:
Once unit is set up with filter bag and hos , it is ready to use.
Equipment can be continually washed till you fill the tub up.
Once the tub is full we stir the contents, and whilst stirring we add two scoops of ecocare wash treatment powder. Stir for one minute.
We allow it to stand for a minute. We stir for another 2 minutes. We then let it stand for about 30 minutes.
After the 30 minutes is over the powder has ensured the waste is separated from the water.
At this point the water is clean and ready for recycling. We do not release into storm water drains; we can recycle water via lawns/gardens.
The solids/waste are then emptied into the bag that is attached to the unit. Solids can then be poured into a container to harden and then can be disposed into general waste.
